EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

CHAD FRIDAY, PE

What inspired you to choose your career path?
My dad inspired me to choose engineering. He is also a civil engineer so I have seen and been around roadway and bridge work my whole life.  Seeing the inner workings of those projects my Dad worked on also inspired me to choose engineering as a career path.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I get the most enjoyment from problem solving. It’s really fun for me to get together with a co-worker or two and come up with a workable solution to a question that doesn’t have a straightforward answer.

What are you most passionate about?
I am most passionate about my family. My favorite part of any day is walking into my house and having my son and daughter fight over who gets to hug me first. I am blessed to have a job where I am able to be home with my family every night.

What is your greatest challenge?
My greatest challenge has been practicing patience. Typically, when presented with a challenge or problem, I like to dive right in…just start doing something. However, I have learned that while this hands-on approach often works out for the best, it can sometimes backfire.  Every now and then, it is best to take a step back and think through a solution in order to come up with the best alternative.

Name an important “lessons learned” moment you have experienced.
There is not one “lesson learned” in particular that stands out above the rest. Most of my lessons learned relate back to taking action before thinking through to the final outcome.  Through my 8 years as an engineer, I have learned, and I am still learning - patience.  Taking an hour to think through a solution might just save you 4 hours of re-work later.
