Scott Garth Employee Spotlight

JUAN CAMACHO, PE

What inspired you to choose your career path?
Moving to Orlando in the late 1980s I witnessed the tremendous growth to the area and the expansion and widening of many roadways.  I was fascinated how empty land was turned into a road or development.  Researching in high school I realized it was civil engineers that made these projects go, so I decided to study civil engineering at the University of Central Florida.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
Working with the many great people here at DRMP, after 10 years with the firm, many are like family.

What are you most passionate about?
My family.

What is your greatest challenge?
Finding the right balance of work and time with the family, especially my 4 year old son.  Many times deadlines or meetings may prevent me from coming home at a reasonable time and I miss out on spending time with him during the week.  However, I do try to make the weekends all about him and attend activities that he would enjoy.

Name an important “lessons learned” moment you have experienced.
Not too long ago had an issue where the contractor built a project I designed with a noticeable hump at the radius return.  We ended up going through the Errors & Omissions process for it.  The “lesson learned” was to always verify the elevations along a proposed radius return.
