DRMP ADDS UAS CERTIFIED SERVICES TO ITS SURVEYING & MAPPING/GEOMATICS SERVICES

Orlando, Fla. – DRMP is excited to announce that it has added Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) services to further expand the efficiency of its surveying and mapping services. August Thick, CST, Survey Project Manager, is certified by the Federal Aviation Administration and has a UAS commercial pilot license. He is available to advise clients on best practices and what projects would benefit from using DRMP’s UAS services. DRMP’s UAS fleet includes the fixed-wing Trimble UX5 HP and various rotary UAS.

The UX5 HP allows you to collect GPS while you’re flying and post process to get coordinates with minimal ground control. It’s a definite time saver because it saves the field crew time, ultimately benefitting the client.” Thick said.

He saw the capabilities of the UX5 HP first hand during surveying and mapping of the Ascension Island Runway/Support Facilities project. Located in the South Atlantic Ocean between Brazil and Africa, DRMP’s surveying and mapping team used the UX5 HP to create a design-level topographic map over a square mile of rugged terrain with a two-week deadline, a project that would have taken at least a month or more using conventional surveying methods.

“Using the UAS was a critical part of getting the job done on time. It allowed us to cover more ground quickly and obtain more data than we would have conventionally,” Thick said. “I’m eager to see the impact it will make with other projects like private development and structural inspections.”

The addition of DRMP’s UAS services is the latest example of the firm’s continued commitment to provide the best, most accurate surveying and mapping services possible for its clients.

“It’s amazing the things we are capable of doing with the latest technology and advances in the geomatics profession,” said Glenn Lusink, PSM, Principal of Surveying and Mapping/Geomatics Division. “I’m excited to see the younger generation spearheading the implementation of these technologies and combining these techniques with conventional surveying methods that we have utilized throughout the years.
