Water Quality Monitoring General Support

FDOT Central Office required water quality monitoring and analysis for several stormwater pond locations scattered throughout the state. DRMP served as a subconsultant and conducted a three-year stormwater quality monitoring study throughout Florida to determine event mean concentrations (EMC) of nutrient and metal parameters discharged to roadway stormwater ponds.

DRMP’s responsibilities included selection of monitoring sites, equipment procurement, station set up, continuing maintenance, monitoring and sample collection and processing. Data from the five rural roadway locations that were chosen reflect varying soil types and, pervious vs. impervious area. Overall potential pollutant loadings will be used to determine actual pollutant loadings and Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) allocation for FDOT right-of-ways. The data will also be used to develop regional EMC values and grow the database used to calculate statewide EMC values in the Statewide Stormwater Rule.

DRMP provided extensive information to FDOT Central Office that can be used in future environmentally conscious decision making based on the state of the water quality from this project.
