Cross Seminole Trail South

Seminole County, Florida needed a multi-disciplined team to provide professional engineering services for the Cross Seminole Trail South project, which was part of a nationwide effort to convert abandoned railroad into recreational trail. Seminole County wanted to convert a vacated CSX railroad.

DRMP was selected to provide the services for this project. The project consisted of the construction of 2.8-miles of 15-foot paved trail and a parallel 6-foot to 8-foot-wide unpaved trail.  The trail was constructed within the abandoned railroad owned by the Trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund (TIITF), and subleased and managed by Seminole County.  The project involved the design of one rest area on the trail, which displays the Trails Around the World Station.  The project also included public involvement services. The design team coordinated with adjacent property owners and other interested partners early in the project to address concerns. Design activities included survey, trail components, drainage, signing and marking, signalization, maintenance of traffic and landscaping. The trail also included a major crossing of Tuscawilla Road and the design of all traffic operation components at this intersection.

The trail provides the community with more accessibility to multi-use recreational trails that allow pedestrians to enjoy nature while getting active.  Our team worked together to ensure the surrounding wildlife and environment would be minimally impacted by the increased foot traffic while still creating a functional trail design.
