Edgewater Sidewalks

Escambia County, Florida sought a firm to provide professional engineering services for the design of nearly 2-miles of sidewalk on Chaseville Street and Frisco Road within the Edgewater Subdivision. The County requested the sidewalks to improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety.

DRMP provided services in a heavily urbanized setting with mailboxes, multiple utilities, drainage structures and private landscaping. DRMP engineers developed a design solution with minimal impacts to all affected parties.  By meandering the sidewalk and utilizing hand rails to protect drainage features, relocations were kept to a minimum. Another key element to the success of the Edgewater project was the clear communication between the County, the contractor and DRMP.  In early meetings with the contractor, it was made clear that the location of certain features within the project could be adjusted as needed to avoid unnecessary conflicts and cost.  This resulted in zero contractor requests for additional information and claims.

DRMP’s design solution improved safety for motorists and pedestrians. Drainage improvements associated with this project successfully navigate stormwater off the sidewalk and roadway, eliminating safety hazards.
