I-95 Widening from the Indian River/Brevard County Line to Malabar Road Design-Build

The FDOT District Five sought Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) design services for the 12.4-mile inside widening of I-95. The FDOT District Five wanted to include extensive traffic monitoring systems to improve safety, traffic efficiency and remote monitoring.

DRMP provided professional engineering services for the ITS design and plan production of this $51 million design-build project which included inside widening of I-95 from 4-lanes to 6-lanes. The ITS design and plans included the extension of the existing gigabit fiber network including a Master Hub with long-haul switching capabilities.  Work also included the deployment of closed circuit television (CCTV) camera sites and vehicle detection systems (VDS).  This project required extensive coordination and permitting with Brevard County and FP&L Utility to provide power to the ITS field equipment.

The ITS system will allow FDOT to monitor traffic for any safety or traffic concerns in this remote part of Brevard County, Florida. This upgrade will give them the ability to contact the authorities for any significant traffic issue or safety concern. The master hub will provide system redundancy to ensure maximum network uptime
