SR 223 Starke Bypass Segment 2

The SR 223 Starke Bypass is a $90 million project located in Bradford County, Florida. FDOT District Two hopes to relieve traffic congestion on US 301 in Starke by providing a new alternative route for large freight-carrying trucks and long distance commuters.

DRMP assisted by providing design for Segment 2, a 2.2-mile portion of the 7.3-mile overall project. The design consisted of a new alignment for a 4-lane rural facility for a truck by-pass route around the City of Starke, Florida. The project starts just north of SR 100, crosses over CR 229 making its way northward to SR 16. A new interchange was designed with SR 16 and then heads northward. DRMP’s section ends at the termini of the northern interchange ramps. Our services included permitting, cost estimating and public involvement for the FDOT.

The Starke Bypass is traveled by more than an estimated 25,000 vehicles per day. FDOT predicts the roadway will only grow in popularity and DRMP’s design provides extra capacity for future traffic growth. Overall, the roadway alleviates a significant portion of traffic congestion on US 301 through downtown Starke.
