SR 45 (US 41) at Lely Resort Boulevard

The Florida Department of Transportation District One sought professional engineering services to provide median upgrades for safety and traffic operations improvements on SR 45 (US 41) at Lely Resort Boulevard. DRMP was serving on a continuing contract and provided the service for the district.

DRMP was responsible for this project which included modifying the median opening at SR 45 (US 41) and Lely Resort Boulevard from a full median opening to a directional median opening (left turns only from US 41 to Lely Resort Boulevard). The median was modified to create traffic separators for the existing left-turn lanes and widened to create a gore area separating the left turns on SR 45 (US 41) from the through traffic.  Work also included milling and resurfacing left turn lanes and implementation of signing and marking as appropriate for the revised median opening.

The median upgrades provide separation for turn lanes from through traffic to increase sight distance for the left turning vehicles. This increased safety as it reduced the number of conflicts at the intersection of SR 45 and Lely Resort Boulevard.
