Hiawassee
Road Orlando, Florida Hiawassee Road is a 1.5 mile roadway widening project starting at Conroy Road and extending north. The road is to be widened to a 5-lane section in the south portion and a divided 4-lane section in the north. DRMP's work consisted of a preliminary engineering study with a public meeting, public hearing, traffic design, roadway design, environmental study, surveying, right-of-way mapping, sketches, legal descriptions, and a bridge over Florida's Turnpike. The interesting part of this project was the bridge
over the Turnpike. At this crossing, we had to maintain traffic on both
Hiawassee and the Turnpike while the bridge was under construction. This
was accomplished by designing the bridge to be constructed in two phases
and re-routing the traffic on the Turnpike when beams were being set over
the travel lanes. In addition, Orange County Conserv II 54-inch force
main running down the Florida's Turnpike had to be avoided. |
