“It feels good to work at a company that shares the same passion as I do: to enhance our communities and improve the safety for the public with each project.”
What inspired you to choose your career path?
My inspiration to pursue engineering was fueled by my passion to understand the technical workings of everything surrounding me beginning at a very early age. Throughout my childhood I was always disassembling my toys, dirt bikes or other household items to better understand their inner workings in an effort to create or design something better. This combined with my aptitude for math and science made me a natural candidate for engineering. I finally chose Civil Engineering as my discipline of choice after dabbling in Computer, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering throughout my college years. The diversity of the Civil Engineering profession combined with its large scale projects and a direct impact to bettering the lives of the surrounding population made it the best choice for me.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy the fact that every project I design is different with its own unique challenges and the understanding that it will directly affect the safety and daily lives of the public.
What are you most passionate about?
I am most passionate about efficiently designing something that is both safe and functional. Currently my career is focusing most heavily on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) which aims to improve upon the efficiency of existing roadway infrastructure through real-time data collection, transmission and analysis. I look forward to and am excited to be an instrumental part in growing this portion of our business at DRMP.
Outside of my career, I am most passionate about my family who consists of my wife, sons and dogs. They are what keep my life interesting and most enjoyable. They are the reason behind my dedication to excel in my career by setting a good example and providing my sons with their ever mounting collection of toys and their latest obsession of buying a bulldozer to tear up the backyard.
What is your greatest challenge?
One of the challenges of engineering, especially ITS, is staying up to date on the ever-changing standards, specifications and technology.
Name an important "lessons learned" moment you have experienced.
An important lessons learned that I have experienced is solving project issues as they first arise in both design or during construction and to involve all parties in order to best formulate a solution. Timing is very important in both design and construction scheduling so procrastination is something to be avoided as it may cause rework to be done which is time and money that is extracted from your bottom line. This lesson learned has also been applied to my life outside of my career as well.
