Geographic Information Systems
At DRMP Since:
2018
Works in:
Office/Field
Works On:
“No day is alike. Because DRMP is a multi-discipline firm, I'm able to apply my skillset to various disciplines and it keeps work exciting and challenging.”
What inspired you to choose your career path?
I chose my career initially because of my love for geography, history and for viewing the world from above in a mapping perspective. What has kept me in the career field is the integration of mapping and modern computer-based technologies driven by the need for accurate spatial data which gives GIS, a Geographic Information Systems, its true purpose and applicability.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The thing I enjoy the most about my job is the overall applicability of our technology to varying disciplines. On any given day the GIS team can be working on tasks pertaining to Engineering, Planning, Surveying, Utilities, Web design or Database Administration depending on the project or the client. This keeps me engaged because there is an opportunity to learn more about different industries as well as apply our knowledge and expertise in finding solutions to a variety of spatial inquiries.
What are you most passionate about?
In earlier years I would’ve said traveling but now that I get to do that less my new passion is food. Exploring different cuisine is another way to have a cultural exchange without traveling by eating, tasting what people from different countries and regions consume, or maybe that’s just what I tell myself.
What is your greatest challenge?
My greatest challenge is time management. With a young family, including two children and a dog, time management is a crucial task because it is easy to have things go off the rails when devoting time to those as well as work and social life requirements.
Name an important "lessons learned" moment you have experienced.
An important lesson I learned early in my career is the importance of the QA/QC process. There is no use dedicating time and resources to a project and not be diligent to make sure all the details and requirements are fulfilled.
