Surveying & Mapping/Geospatial
At DRMP Since:
“I’ve had great opportunities to work on a variety of challenging projects and work with great people – all of which have played a role in my growth at DRMP.”
What inspired you to choose your career path?
I have always been good at math but never enjoyed just working with numbers. As soon as I discovered Geomatics, I knew I had found the perfect mix of math, science, history and law. DRMP has been a great fit for me as I have been able to develop technical skills while at the same time growing into a leadership role.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy the variety of projects and people I have the opportunity to work with. No two projects are exactly the same and everyone has their own creative ways at approaching them. Learning through these opportunities keeps my job interesting.
What are you most passionate about?
I am most passionate about creating visually appealing products in addition to them being accurate. Anyone can throw lines and text on paper and call it a map but it takes patience and attention to detail to create a survey that is easily understandable and highly useful.
What is your greatest challenge?
My greatest challenge has always been knowing when a map is complete. There will always be more detail that can be added and text to be reworded or moved but eventually you have to know that you’ve created a product that you can take pride in and is ready for your client.
Name an important "lessons learned" moment you have experienced.
One day while my workload was light, I reluctantly took on a project that promised to be tedious and challenging. It turned out to be very rewarding and has continued to bring in more work for both me and my department. I learned to approach all projects with a more open mind and have come to enjoy my job even more because of this.
