Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
At DRMP Since:
“I really like that DRMP invests in its people and its services. In the GIS field, there’s always something new on the horizon and the company makes sure that we’re up to speed to ensure we can be the best at what we do.”
What inspired you to choose your career path?
When I was growing up, I was always very fascinated with earth sciences and geology. My geology classes at the University of Florida introduced me to Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and from there I realized that GIS was a way that I could work with data from so many interesting subjects. The first moment I decided on GIS as a career was during college when I was out to dinner with my dad who was visiting. He told me how excited I seemed about GIS when I was explaining my classes to him, and that I should really consider it as a career option.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love that GIS is constantly evolving and there is always something new to learn. It means there is always a new and exciting way to present data I’m working with.
What are you most passionate about?
My family and friends. I’ve also never met an animal I didn’t like. I also love the Florida Gators (Go Gators!), exercise and live music.
What is your greatest challenge?
I am sometimes hesitant to strike up a conversation with new people or to get involved in groups or organizations that are unfamiliar to me.
Name an important "lessons learned" moment you have experienced.
The number one rule of being a GIS analyst, and the one you always learn the hard way, is to constantly save your work.
