SR 538 (Poinciana Parkway) Capacity Improvements from Ronald Reagan Parkway to CR 580/Cypress Parkway
After acquiring SR 538 (Poinciana Parkway) from the Osceola Expressway Authority, the Central Florida Expressway Authority needed to both widen the 2-lane undivided road to accommodate the rapid growth in the area and upgrade it to meet CFX standards and aesthetics.
DRMP is the Engineer of Record for this $94.4 million design-build project that includes the widening of SR 538 (Poinciana Parkway) to a 4-lane divided expressway for seven miles and the design of new bridges over the Reedy Creek Mitigation Bank, Marigold Avenue, and KOA Street. The team provided structural engineering design services for three new bridges using Florida-I Beams and prestressed concrete piles. Environmental concerns were considered in designing the bridge over the Reedy Creek Mitigation Bank to allow for minimal environmental impacts, as we all as minimum vertical clearance which allows the safe passage of wildlife below. The team also provided design services for over two miles of sound walls, drainage, environmental, permitting, signing and pavement markings, intelligent transportation systems, lighting, all-electronic tolling, and utility upgrades for the Toho Water Authority.
DRMP partnered with the project’s contractor to provide an innovative revised pile configuration that saved $5 million in project costs. The project provides much needed additional capacity to the growing Osceola County region.
