SR 528 (Beachline) Widening from I-4 to Florida’s Turnpike

Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise sought an experienced transportation team to provide traffic engineering design services for 4.3-miles of widening of SR 528 Beachline from I-4 to Florida’s Turnpike. SR 528 was faced with continuous congestion and was in need of capacity and traffic flow improvements.

DRMP provided professional engineering services including lighting and traffic operations design for the widening of SR 528 from a 4-lane to 8-lane limited access toll facility with two inside express toll lanes separated by a 4-foot buffer with delineators in each direction. Plans included design of toll gantry, roadway, drainage, signing and pavement markings, maintenance of traffic, structures, lighting, signals, ITS, environmental permitting, and surveying.

The provided lighting design gives motorists on SR 528 increased visibility and safety at night. Signing and pavement markings increase driver’s awareness, many of whom are here on vacation and unfamiliar with the area. The widened road increases vehicle capacity.
