ORLANDO, Fla. — From supporting new learning and play spaces for students to connecting with engineers across disciplines and exploring the AEC industry’s influence on public policy, DRMP’s Kim Sadowski, PE, spent the past 10 months building connections and exploring ways to contribute to her profession and community.

DRMP congratulates Sadowski, Orlando Assistant Roadway Group Leader, on graduating from the Florida Engineering Leadership Institute’s (FELI) Class of 2026.

Administered by the Florida Engineering Society (FES) and the American Council of Engineering Companies of Florida (ACEC Florida), FELI is a competitively selected, 10-month professional development program designed to cultivate leadership skills in engineers across the state. Sadowski continues DRMP’s long-standing involvement in FELI, joining numerous employees who have been accepted into the program over the years.

For Sadowski, FELI also meant getting to know engineers whose expertise and perspectives differ from her own.

“I think it was a deeper connection with our overall engineering community,” Sadowski said. “There were leaders from all different areas of our industry, from DOT to consultants, in fields like structures, drainage, water resources, roadway, and CEI. They are all experts in their field and brought inspiration every time we had a session.”

Over 10 months of sessions, those connections had time to develop into relationships. Sadowski came away from FELI with trusted colleagues throughout the industry — people she can continue learning from and turn to for perspectives outside her own discipline.

Each FELI class also completes a community service project that gives back to the engineering profession or local communities. The Class of 2026 put its collective effort behind two projects.

In Clearwater, the class raised approximately $60,000 for new playground equipment serving middle-school-aged students at a school for students with autism. The project added swings and climbing equipment, expanding the recreational space available to the school’s older students.

Sadowski attended the project’s ribbon-cutting and watched the students use the new equipment for the first time.

“Seeing those smiles was really rewarding,” she said.

The class also raised approximately $40,000 to support a STEM lab at a Boys & Girls Club of Central Florida in Kissimmee, providing equipment and helping enhance the space for students to explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

As part of the program, the class also traveled to Tallahassee for Legislative Days, where Sadowski and her classmates learned more about how legislation affects the AEC industry and how engineers can engage in the legislative process. The class even adopted the flamingo as an unofficial symbol after encountering legislation that proposed naming the American flamingo Florida’s official state bird.

Legislative Days also connected with an opportunity Sadowski had already been considering closer to home: serving on the City of Winter Park Transportation Advisory Board.

Through connections she made during FELI, Sadowski received encouragement to pursue the opportunity. She now serves on the board, where she can bring her transportation background to conversations affecting the community.

Following through on goals was another takeaway for Sadowski. During the program’s final session, participants identified goals they wanted to carry forward and discussed how accountability can help move them forward.

“That’s something that stuck with me,” Sadowski said, recalling what she told herself: “OK, you said you’re going to do it. Do it.”

Sadowski’s graduation adds another FELI graduate to DRMP and expands the firm’s connections across Florida’s engineering community. For Sadowski, those connections provide a broader professional network she can draw from as she leads and supports roadway work at DRMP and serves the transportation needs of her community.

After nearly four decades of involvement with the Florida Surveying and Mapping Society (FSMS), DRMP Vice President Pablo Ferrari, PSM, was recognized with the Society's Fellow Member Award during the 71st Annual FSMS Conference.

Ferrari began his involvement with FSMS in the late 1980s while working as a rodman and draftsman for a small surveying firm. Since then, he has served in numerous leadership roles at the chapter and state levels, including chapter president, state secretary, District II director, and state president.

As a student at the University of Florida, he served as an officer in the Geomatics Student Chapter before taking on leadership positions throughout the Society, including president of the Crown Chapter and later state president.

Receiving the Fellow Member Award from colleagues who he’s worked with throughout his career represents a valued acknowledgement.

“It is humbling,” Ferrari said. “I am very proud to be considered a member of this group, and to be recognized by my peers is an honor.”

Throughout his career, Ferrari said FSMS has played an integral role in his professional development.

“In more ways than I can name,” he said. “The contacts and professional relationships that are fostered by being active in a professional society are invaluable. The interaction between competitors in the marketplace, but brothers-in-arms when it comes to our shared profession, is amazing. Surveyors are very proud of their profession, and as a professional society representing our members, FSMS is constantly working to enhance and protect our profession.”

Among his proudest accomplishments is serving as FSMS state president during the Society's 2008-09 leadership year, a period when Florida's surveying and mapping regulatory board transitioned from the Department of Business and Professional Regulation to the Department of Consumer and Agricultural Services. During that time, the University of Florida's surveying program also transitioned from the College of Engineering to the School of Forest, Fisheries, and Geomatics Sciences.

“The friendships and professional relationships have been very rewarding,” Ferrari said. “I was honored to serve as state president during that transition period.”

Ferrari encourages the next generation of surveyors to become involved in professional organizations early in their careers.

“I feel it is important for young professionals to join and be active in groups like FSMS,” he said. “The relationships and contacts that are made early in their careers are invaluable.”

DRMP Engineers Reveal Lessons Behind Major Electric Bus Conversion Project at ASHE Northeast Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Thousands of theme park guests ride shuttle buses every day without giving much thought to what powers the trip. Behind the scenes, a globally recognized entertainment and media company has been converting its theme park bus fleet from diesel to electric, creating a cleaner transportation option. As part of that effort, DRMP designed the electrical infrastructure for one of Florida’s largest electric bus charging depots, which can support up to 120 electric buses.

DRMP electrical engineers Justin Hayes, EIT, Jacksonville traffic group leader and project manager, and Nigel Atkinson, PE, traffic and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) electrical project manager, will present “Designing Transportation Infrastructure for Fleet Electrification: Lessons Learned from a Large-Scale Charging Depot” at the Aug. 6 luncheon hosted by the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) Northeast Florida.

Attendees will learn how electric vehicle charging technology has evolved from onboard alternating current (AC) charging to centralized direct current (DC) fast charging systems and how that shift changes the electrical infrastructure required for large-scale fleet operations. AC is the type of electricity commonly used in homes and businesses, while DC delivers power directly to an electric vehicle’s battery, allowing buses to charge faster. Hayes and Atkinson also will share real-world lessons from delivering a fleet electrification project, including coordinating with equipment manufacturers and adapting to rapidly evolving technologies.

“One of the biggest lessons we learned from this project was how moving from onboard AC charging to centralized DC fast charging changes the infrastructure needed for a large electric bus fleet,” Hayes said. “As charging technology advances, engineers have to account for larger electrical systems, new equipment requirements, and coordination among multiple project partners.”

The project required DRMP’s electrical engineering team to coordinate several major systems within a single charging facility. The depot combines medium-voltage power distribution, centralized power conversion equipment, battery energy storage, and a floating solar photovoltaic system. The facility was constructed in three phases and includes 120 200-kilowatt charging dispensers.

Hayes said a major challenge was coordinating with the equipment manufacturer.

“Interestingly, the biggest challenges were not technical design challenges,” he said. “The electrical engineering itself was fairly straightforward once the equipment was defined. The greatest challenge was coordinating with the equipment manufacturer throughout a fast-paced project where the manufacturer's project management team changed multiple times.”

Each transition required reestablishing design decisions, confirming equipment requirements, and maintaining close communication to keep the project moving forward despite schedule changes and evolving equipment selections.

The innovation behind the project, Hayes said, was not the creation of new technology, but the integration of existing technologies at a much larger scale.

“By bringing together multiple energy systems within a single, coordinated charging facility, the project demonstrates how fleet charging infrastructure is evolving beyond standalone chargers into utility-scale electrical systems,” he said.

Atkinson said the project reflects the changes underway in transportation infrastructure as agencies plan for electric fleets.

“A key takeaway from this project is that fleet charging facilities are becoming part of a larger transportation ecosystem,” Atkinson said. “Engineers have to consider how these systems will operate over time, how they interact with one another, and how the infrastructure can adapt as transportation needs continue to change.”

ORLANDO, Fla. – DRMP, Inc., announced today that President and CEO Glenn Lusink, PSM, will retire at the end of July following an extraordinary 42-year career with the firm. Mark Ryan, chief operating officer – Trilon South Region, will serve as interim DRMP president.

Lusink’s retirement comes at a time of continued organizational strength and momentum for DRMP. The firm remains focused on delivering exceptional and innovative services to its clients while focusing internally on operational excellence, strategic growth, and avenues to develop staff to foster career growth opportunities within the firm.

Lusink joined DRMP in 1984 as a surveying and mapping rodman and built a career that spanned four decades advancing through every level of the organization to lead as its president. After earning his professional land surveyor (PLS) license in 1999 (now designated as a professional surveyor and mapper, or PSM), he relocated to Jacksonville in 2000 to establish DRMP's office, laying the foundation for the firm's continued growth in Northeast Florida. Lusink was promoted to vice president in 2003 and later elected to the firm’s Steering Committee. In 2015, he was named a principal of the firm before becoming chief operating officer in 2020. Lusink became president in 2022, where he helped guide DRMP’s growth as a multi-discipline infrastructure consulting firm.

"DRMP has been my professional home for more than four decades,” Lusink said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside so many talented professionals and proud of what we have accomplished together. Most importantly, I am confident in the people who will continue leading DRMP forward and the opportunities that lie ahead for our firm.”

Ryan is not new to DRMP. He joined DRMP in 2023 as operating partner and vice president of Strategy & Operations, where he was a part of the leadership team and partnered to unlock operational improvements across DRMP. In 2026, he was promoted to chief operating officer of Trilon’s South Region, supporting one of Trilon Group's three growing regional platforms that is comprised of six partner firms, including DRMP. Before joining DRMP and Trilon, Ryan spent time in strategy consulting following completion of his MBA from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran and Naval Academy graduate, he brings a diverse background spanning engineering, strategy consulting, and executive leadership.

“I have been fortunate to build relationships and learn the intricacies of DRMP’s business from those leaders during my time in the operating partner and COO positions,” Ryan said. "Glenn's career is an inspiration to all of us. His dedication, commitment to excellence, and ability to build lasting partnerships have helped strengthen DRMP and created opportunities for others to grow and succeed.”

About DRMP

ORLANDO, Fla. – Tyler Savino has joined DRMP as fleet manager, where he will oversee the firm’s more than 300 vehicles and streamline operations, strengthen safety, and enhance efficiency.

In this role, Savino will simplify fleet processes to better support field operations. His priorities over the coming months include centralizing and streamlining fleet processes, reducing points of contact to simplify communication, and reducing costs through measures that will positively impact safety, fleet health, and overall operational efficiency across the firm. He also intends to build a plan that streamlines vehicle upfits to create greater uniformity among roles within the firm and its departments.

To support those goals, Savino plans to implement proactive maintenance scheduling, strategically use spare vehicles, and apply lifecycle-based replacement planning to reduce downtime and improve reliability.

“This business is diverse, and with that, comes a fleet that needs to serve the diverse needs but also be flexible to serve other divisional needs,” Savino said. “Finding that harmony is a goal and takes a lot of collaboration.”

Savino will work closely with project managers, field supervisors, and operational staff to support maintenance compliance, reinforce safe driving practices, and ensure vehicles remain reliable and ready for field use. He noted that fleet success depends on active participation throughout the firm and requires consistent communication, accountability, and timely reporting of vehicle issues.

He brings experience developing and managing a large-scale fleet operation of more than 500 vehicles, along with a background in engineering and drafting that provides insight into the requirements of infrastructure and field-based work.

“Recently, I was responsible for collaboratively building a fleet program for a fleet size of approximately 565 vehicles,” Savino said. “I wanted to bring that experience to an organization that places a strong emphasis on accountability, continuous improvement, and successfully working through changes.”

Savino noted that managing a diverse fleet requires balancing the needs of multiple business units while maintaining the flexibility to adapt to changing operational needs.

Employees can expect a collaborative and responsive approach from Savino and a strong emphasis on safety.

“I pride myself on being responsive and strive to leave no question unanswered,” he said. “I am safety driven. Since my first role in fleet, it has become paramount that the effectiveness of the fleet keeps our people safe.”

He also highlighted the importance of maintenance compliance, regular inspections, and fostering a strong safety culture supported by communication and accountability.

DRMP President and CEO Glenn Lusink, PSM, said Savino’s background will be a strong asset as the firm continues to refine its fleet operations.

“Tyler has a proven ability to bring structure to complex operational environments and build effective working relationships with people,” he said. “We’re pleased to have him on board and look forward to the perspective he brings to DRMP.”

About DRMP

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Noise barrier walls line highways where traffic passes close to neighborhoods, parks, and schools. They are designed to reduce roadway noise that affects nearby homes and public spaces. Before a wall is constructed, engineers use a noise model to predict how much traffic noise will be reduced and whether a barrier will be effective.

The Traffic Noise Model (TNM) is the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) tool used for this purpose. TNM is a computer-based system that estimates roadway noise based on traffic and roadway conditions and predicts sound levels at locations where people are exposed, such as building exteriors and outdoor activity areas.

DRMP Transportation Noise Group Leader Robyn Hartz, INCE, and DRMP Noise Analyst Jessica Lozada, INCE, will present “Validation in TNM3.2” at the INCE USA 2026 NOISE-CON on July 11 at 9:40 a.m. at the Westin Long Beach in California.

“Noise is always a hot topic issue for communities,” Lozada said. “As population growth increases, and with that increased traffic, it is important to be able to accurately measure and predict traffic noise levels.”

TNM 3.2 is a newer version of the model used for these predictions compared to the current FHWA-approved TNM 2.5. It is being evaluated to determine how closely its results match field measurements used in environmental review and project development. Validation is the process of comparing modeled noise levels to real-world measurements. A model is generally considered valid when predicted sound levels are within about 3 dB(A) of measured results.

The session will compare validation results between TNM 3.2 and TNM 2.5 and will examine cases where TNM 3.2 can under-predict measured noise levels. Hartz and Lozada will also discuss how those differences may affect validation practice and whether practitioners may need to adjust how they apply the model in noise barrier analysis.

“Our Noise team always strives to be efficient and innovative in our practices,” Hartz said. “We have teamed with DRMP’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team to streamline our noise modeling procedures and support more consistent TNM analysis. With the development of TNM 3.2 and continued validation work, we will always find ways to enhance our services and improve how we evaluate and apply model results.”

ORLANDO, Fla. – After nearly a decade of demonstrating excellence in leadership, innovation, and client service across DRMP's surveying and geospatial operations, Vice President Brent Bass, PE, PSM, has been promoted to Southwest Florida regional survey manager.

In this role, Bass will lead efforts to strengthen and grow the firm’s survey presence throughout the Southwest region, supporting staff, clients, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and strategic initiatives.

Southwest Florida continues to experience significant population growth and infrastructure investment, creating strong demand for transportation, utility, survey, subsurface utility engineering (SUE), and geospatial services, Bass said.

“The region includes Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Districts 1 and 7, which represent some of the most consistent transportation programs in the state,” he said. “In addition to FDOT opportunities, counties and municipalities throughout the region are investing heavily in infrastructure improvements, asset management, utility coordination, and resiliency initiatives. With our combined survey, SUE, and geospatial capabilities, DRMP is well positioned to support these growing needs.”

Bass’s immediate priorities will be to expand DRMP’s staff presence in Southwest Florida, growing the firm’s survey and SUE operations, and continuing to strengthen relationships with key clients.

“We are focused on establishing additional field resources in Fort Myers, launching a Sarasota-based SUE operation, and creating leadership opportunities for future growth,” he said. “From a client perspective, our primary focus will be FDOT Districts 1 and 7, along with municipalities, counties, utility providers, and private development clients.”

Key target areas include Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Sarasota, Manatee, Polk, and Hillsborough counties.

Bass has more than 16 years of experience in surveying, engineering, and transportation infrastructure. Before joining DRMP in 2017, he held multiple leadership positions with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), managing complex surveying, utility engineering, and transportation projects throughout the state.

During his tenure at DRMP, Bass has advanced from survey project manager to group leader, then to Geospatial Services division manager, and vice president. He will continue serving as Geospatial Services division manager, a role within the Southwest region, while still taking on his vice president responsibilities.

“Brent has been an integral part of our surveying and geospatial operations, consistently demonstrating strong leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to client service,” said DRMP Vice President and Assistant Director of Surveying August Thick, PLS. “We are fortunate to have a leader of Brent’s caliber helping guide our continued growth. His experience, dedication, and vision make him exceptionally well suited to lead our Southwest Florida survey operations.”

Among the projects Bass cites as highlights of his career at DRMP is the Tampa Westshore Interchange Design-Build project.

“Our team leveraged Mobile LiDAR technology to rapidly collect survey data and accelerate project delivery, allowing the design team to begin work sooner while maintaining high-quality survey standards,” Bass said. “The project demonstrated DRMP’s ability to work share efficiently and solidified the value of advanced geospatial technologies on large transportation projects.”

Another significant project was the Charlotte County Bridge Scour Assessment Program in Florida.

“Using our Teledyne Z-Boat equipped with multibeam sonar technology, we completed hydrographic surveys of three bridges in just three days and delivered results within two weeks,” he said. “This approach provided the client with critical infrastructure data quickly and safely while showcasing DRMP's growing hydrographic capabilities.”

Bass said the promotion gives him an opportunity to build on the success of DRMP’s Geospatial Services team while supporting the firm's continued growth in Southwest Florida.

“I'm proud of what we've built within Geospatial Services, and I look forward to applying those experiences across survey and SUE as we continue expanding our regional presence,” he said. “Most importantly, this role provides an opportunity to mentor future leaders, create career opportunities for our staff, and continue delivering exceptional service to our clients. I'm excited to work alongside our talented staff and leadership team as we continue building a strong presence throughout the region.”

About DRMP
