Ascension Island Auxiliary Airfield Surveying and Mapping Services

DRMP provided surveying and mapping services for the full-depth replacement of the 10,000-LF runway at the Ascension Island Auxiliary Airfield.  Located in the South Atlantic Ocean between Brazil and Africa, this airfield supports strategic space launch, surveillance and operations for the United States and United Kingdom.

Surveyors performed a design-level topographic map of over 1-square mile of rugged, volcanic terrain utilizing static LiDAR and Unmanned Aerial System photogrammetry and production of a new UFC-compliant, GIS airfield obstruction imaginary surfaces. Subsurface Utility Engineering included the designation and location of over 6-miles of underground water, wastewater, stormwater, primary and secondary electric and airfield lighting lines.

As the result of DRMP’s thorough surveying and mapping services, the Ascension Airfield has proper measurement for a new and improved runway. In addition, surveying staff prepared the survey of the existing pier head and beach landing craft.
