DRMP Elevates Mike Albano, PE, to Chief Operations Officer

March 28th, 2023

Orlando, Fla. – DRMP is pleased to announce the promotion of Vice President Mike Albano, PE, to the role of Chief Operations Officer (COO) to support its mission to enhance opportunities for its staff and the communities it serves.

As COO, Albano will direct, coordinate, and administer a broad range of activities and functions to ensure DRMP has effective and efficient operations to achieve the firm’s objectives.  One of his primary responsibilities is to provide guidance and oversight to the firm’s market sector directors. He will also assist in the development of organization policies as well as strategic short- and long-range plans in such areas as human resources, financial performance, pushing for utilization of emerging industry technologies, and the continued expansion and growth in the Southeastern United States and beyond.

Albano has built his 30-plus year career at DRMP where he started as a Structural Engineer in 1990. Albano’s transition into leadership began when he was elevated to the role of Structures Department Manager in 2000, where he led the structures group and the diversification and expansion of its service offerings for 18 years. He has led numerous committees within DRMP and is a member of the firm’s Steering and Executive committees. In his most recent role, Albano provided client management and business development for major and minor transportation and structures-related projects and supported the firm’s growth efforts.

He has also been instrumental in representing DRMP within the industry and in community involvement. The 2014 Florida Engineering Leadership Institute (FELI) graduate has served in professional industry organizations such as the American Society of Highway Engineers and continues to represent the firm in its STEM education and career outreach efforts through Construction Career Days and teach-ins.

Along with ensuring DRMP is operating efficiently as possible, Albano says building solid relationships inside and outside of the firm is something he will continue to promote in his new role.

“DRMP is about more than co-existing and working together – there is an effort to get to know each other and understand each other’s perspectives, skill sets, and ideas, which leads to better collaboration and employees who know the role they play is positively impacting the firm,” he said.

“True collaboration comes from employees who are valued and who bring their best to the table. I desire to inspire our staff to be happy and be the best they can be, and not someone they are not,” Albano continued. “Success doesn’t bring happiness, happiness brings success.”

That collaboration also contributes to strong working relationships with our clients, something DRMP has always been intentional about and is at the heart of the firm’s success, he said.

“Outside of the expertise and innovation that we bring to our projects, our clients like working with us. It’s a simple, but underestimated skill that is a part of our firm’s great reputation throughout the industry,” he said.

Albano’s career journey at DRMP will serve him well, said DRMP President Glenn Lusink, PSM.

“Mike has the advantage of serving in just about every role at our firm – from engineering to leadership – that will help him excel in his new role as COO. He has the knowledge, and more importantly the passion, personality, and commitment, that will support DRMP’s continued success, " Lusink said.
