Christenson’s Landing Seagrass Monitoring Study

Brevard County, Florida was seeking ecological services from a firm to recover seagrass that suffered from unavoidable impacts as a result of the construction of a new ramp access to the Indian River Lagoon.

The impacted seagrass was restored by transplanting the seagrass sediment tubes to an adjacent area.  DRMP was contracted by the County to conduct seagrass monitoring studies as part of the permit conditions. DRMP biologists/divers conducted underwater monitoring quadrats to assess seagrass growth changes over time on plots of transplanted seagrass.

Data from the study will be used to assess the viability of seagrass transplantation as a mitigation option as part of the permit requirements.
