Statehouse Wayfinding Study

DRMP is responsible for the transportation planning component of this wayfinding study of a private three-story, parking garage with four access points and 1,800 spaces located under the South Carolina Statehouse and legislative buildings.   The parking garage had an unconventional layout and is underground with limited and confusing signage.

DRMP designed the access points and implemented traffic calming measures at all entrances. Specific study components consisted of signing and marking inventory, traffic pattern analysis, conceptual wayfinding sign design, cost estimate and preparation of a wayfinding report. Our engineers were approved for the necessary security clearance before design.

The results provided by DRMP’s study and design gives the South Carolina Budget and Control Board an up-to-date inventory of existing deficiencies and wayfinding signing and pavement marking designs to greatly enhance navigation for users of the underground parking garage.
