5th Street Station

The Traffic Impact Studies were integral to the successful development of the 5th Station Center in Albemarle County, Va. The center is anchored by Wegmans and includes a wide range of retailers, restaurants, and a movie theater. Several attempts had been made over the years to develop the site, but none were able to adequately address the traffic impacts due to right-of-way and topographical constraints.

Traffic engineers designed an upgrade to the existing traffic signal on 5th Street at Bent Creek Parkway, the new signal at the main entrance to the center, and the new signal on Avon Street at Bent Creek Parkway. A site access plan and upgraded new traffic signals were also prepared for the 5th Street Station.

With these recommendations, the new development will spur economic growth and provide shopping and entertainment opportunities for residents and visitors.
