Hendrick Southpoint Auto Mall

WRS Real Estate needed traffic engineering and design work associated with a new Hendrick Auto Mall in Durham, N.C.  The auto mall included several car dealerships on a large campus that is across from the Southpoint regional shopping mall.  They needed services provided within a strict time frame.

Improvements consist of widening Fayetteville Road from a 2-lane road to a 5-lane road for approximately 1,500 feet from just north of Massey Chapel Road to Renaissance Parkway.

The project included roadway design, signal design, storm drainage, erosion control, pavement markings, traffic management, and utility coordination.

Traffic engineers also prepared North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) driveway permits and encroachment agreements and coordinated with NCDOT and the City of Durham for all approvals.  Utility coordination efforts included preparing utility conflict mapping, coordination with the City of Durham and NCDOT on encroachment agreements required for water line taps within Fayetteville Road, and coordinating power pole relocations impacted by roadway widening.

The traffic engineers' recommendations and coordination efforts resulted in improved traffic flow and roadway safety.
