I-5974 at US 701 and NC 96

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) wanted to improve the flow of traffic at the interchange of I-5794/I-95 at Devil’s Racetrack Road in Johnston County, North Carolina. To accomplish this, the interchange required the addition of roundabouts.

DRMP assisted the client’s efforts by providing terrestrial mobile LiDAR services for approximately 13.8-lane-miles of pavement around the interchange of I-95 at US 701 and NC 96. Our staff generated point clouds for all pavement, bridges, curbing, driveways and private roads. These point clouds were used to accurately map all breaklines within the coverage area using TopoDOT extraction software.

LiDAR scanning allowed our team to accurately map all ground features in addition to a 2.5-foot ground shot grid on all hard surfaces. DRMP’s extraction efforts provided an accurate and robust model of the road while maintaining the safety of our staff.
