City of Parkland Roundabout

City of Parkland, Fla. residents living near the Parkland Golf and Country Club were experiencing traffic buildup along University Drive.  The road is a vital link to the community’s everyday lives for commuting and with the added school traffic causing congestion in the mornings there was a need for improvements.   The residents felt strongly about expanding the intersection and adding a traffic signal alternative to alleviate the traffic.

The roadway had several limitations that posed challenges for the use of a signalized intersection alternative.  The DRMP Team designed a 1-lane roundabout to reconstruct the existing 3-way stop condition and improve the traffic operations near the entrance of the Parkland Golf and Country Club (PGCC).  The use of a roundabout would increase traffic flow and safety but also serves as a gateway feature for the City of Parkland.

DRMP partnered with City staff, met directly with the Parkland Golf and Country Club HOA representative and President and other project stakeholders to understand the needs of the community.  By including the stakeholders in early in the design process, DRMP was able to meet both traffic and community needs and provide an aesthetically pleasing roundabout alternative with hardscape and landscape design.
