Patrick Space Force Base Shoreline Restoration

Patrick Space Force Base (PAFB) needed a firm to provide ecological services for the design to reconstruct and restore sections of the shoreline that were damaged after Hurricane Matthew. DRMP delineated the wetlands and conducted seagrass and mangrove surveys for the restoration project.

The environmental resource permitting required extensive coordination with state and federal agencies. Mangrove and seagrass surveys were conducted to minimize and avoid impacts to these communities. As part of the design, DRMP coordinated with PAFB staff and developed a planting plan to restore native vegetation that was impacted during construction. The planting plan is intended to be used as on-site mitigation to offset the wetland impacts as a result of construction. 

The restored shoreline will prevent future storms from damaging PAFB, and it will also improve water quality of the Banana River. The replanting of the shoreline will provide habitat for wildlife.
