Industrial Plant Laser Scanning

DRMP was contacted to provide LiDAR services to NHWL Engineering, Inc. on sites in Florida and Georgia. NHWL needed a 3D point cloud to model portions of industrial plants, and sought a viewer that would allow them to view each scan location from the perspective of the LiDAR scanner. This viewer needed to view photographs collected during the scans, and the photographs had to be registered to the point clouds to allow for accurate measurements from within the viewer.

DRMP surveyors used their short-range FARO scanner and FARO Scent software to collect colorized point clouds and photographs that the client could import into their modeling software. Individual scans were collected in close enough proximity to the others to allow the software to register the scans “cloud to cloud”, generating an overall point cloud for each industrial site. The viewer information was delivered to the client in a FARO Webshare-To-Go format, which allowed the client to view and make measurements as then needed.

The deliverables allowed the client to model the pipe infrastructure within each plant, and the Webshare viewer allowed NHWL to present the resulting information to their client clearly using photography of the plant.
