SR 200 Intersections Laser Scanning

DRMP was responsible for providing topographic surveys of 15 intersections along SR 200 in Marion County, Florida. Heavy traffic along SR 200 makes survey of pavement a safety concern. This project also involved replacement of individual sections of sidewalks, which required the expansion joints of all sidewalks to be accurately mapped.

Surveyors performed topographic survey using Terrestrial Static LiDAR to collect data on the hard surfaces within the survey limits, including travel lanes, sidewalks and curb and gutter, supplemented the LiDAR survey with traditional ground survey of drainage structures and “soft” areas such as grass strips and adjacent drainage retention areas. All of the data was merged into one drawing to provide a seamless Digital Terrain Model of the project areas.

LiDAR scanning allowed DRMP to accurately map expansion joints in existing sidewalks for repair and replacement. Pavement data was collected without staff entering the travel lanes, providing the highest level of field safety.
