I-175/SR 594 From East of 16th St. South to 4th St. South

DRMP provided Mobile LiDAR and Surveying and Mapping services to support a concrete rehabilitation project on I-175, from East of 16th Street South to 4th Street South in St. Petersburg, Pinellas County, Fla. This section of I-175 primarily serves to connect downtown St. Petersburg to I-275, making it a crucial route for commuters, visitors, and businesses. The project, managed by the Florida Department of Transportation, District 7, focused on improving roadway safety.

Mobile LiDAR played a key role in this project by allowing safe and efficient collection of roadway features and detailed pavement data. Using a RIEGL VMX-2HA TML sensor, the team gathered 2 million data points per second while driving at posted speed limits. This captured crucial details like concrete slab joints and major cracks. The high-accuracy survey followed FDOT’s Mobile LiDAR Surveying and Mapping Guidelines, which reduced the need for on-site visits, improving safety and speeding up the project.

Other services provided included pavement design, slab maintenance scheduling, milling and resurfacing, drainage, signing and pavement markings, lighting, and public involvement. In areas with limited visibility, conventional survey methods were used to supplement the Mobile LiDAR data. High-resolution georeferenced photos were also captured alongside the LiDAR data, giving detailed images tied to the survey data for better decision-making and project execution.
