SR 570 (Polk Parkway) Resurface and Safety Improvement Project
DRMP provided Terrestrial Mobile LiDAR, Surveying and Mapping, and Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) services in support of the SR 570 (Polk Parkway) Resurface and Safety Improvement Project along 6.6 miles of SR 570 from Milepost 8 to Milepost 17.2 in Polk County, Fla., for Florida's Turnpike Enterprise. This project focused on enhancing roadway safety and improving surface conditions.
Terrestrial Mobile LiDAR services were a key component of this project. DRMP used Terrestrial Mobile LiDAR Type A Scanning to efficiently collect detailed roadway data. The team deployed a RIEGL VMX-2HA Mobile Unit equipped with a 360° ladybug camera, gathering two million data points per second. The roadway corridors, totaling 10 miles and 45 lane miles, were scanned at posted speeds, allowing for safe and accurate data collection without disrupting traffic. This high-accuracy survey followed the Florida Department of Transportation's Terrestrial Mobile LiDAR Surveying and Mapping Guidelines and minimized the need for on-site visits, improving safety and reducing project time.
The collected LiDAR data was processed, reviewed for quality assurance, and incorporated into the final design file to support the 3D design survey. DRMP also supplemented the LiDAR data with conventional survey methods in areas where visibility was limited.
In addition to Mobile LiDAR, DRMP provided Surveying and Mapping services, such as design survey preparation, right-of-way survey, project survey control, limited drainage inventory, and sketches of legal descriptions for aerial and non-aerial easements along CSX railroad crossings. SUE services included both Quality Level B utility designations and Quality Level A locates, ensuring precise mapping of underground utilities.
