University of Florida Comprehensive Campus LiDAR Collection

DRMP provided Terrestrial Mobile LiDAR and GIS services for a full baseline survey of the University of Florida campus. This 68-mile project established an inventory of underground utilities and created comprehensive data that will be used for QA/QC comparisons with future site surveys, ensuring accuracy and consistency for the university. DRMP’s work focused on verifying existing underground utilities and providing essential data for campus-wide infrastructure planning and safety improvements. Importantly, DRMP was able to collect all necessary data without hindering campus activity by adjusting the collection schedule to meet the needs of the active university campus through a four-phase approach.

DRMP’s Mobile LiDAR team performed scans across over 20 miles of roadway corridors to assist in pedestrian safety, ADA compliance, and street lighting studies. Open areas and green spaces were scanned using an off-road ATV with mobile scanning capabilities, allowing the University of Florida to compare the accuracy of various design plans and surveys against a campus-wide control. For lakes, inaccessible areas, and sports fields, DRMP deployed an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) equipped with a high-accuracy LiDAR sensor, creating a full 3D model of the campus.

This approach combined Mobile LiDAR scans, UAV data, and conventional mapping techniques, providing the university with concise data for future projects.
