US 19 (SR 55) Shared Use Path

FDOT District Seven needed a firm to provide professional engineering services for the US 19 (SR 55) Shared-Use Path in Crystal River, Florida. The path was requested by the City to connect the downtown area to State Park Road.  The project provided a critical recreational path for a future trail connection to Crystal River Preserve State Park. The project was a high profile/high priority project generated by the Federal Stimulus Package.

DRMP designed and permitted the 12-foot shared-use path that required the design of a storm sewer system to maintain drainage patterns.  The project was permitted through the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) and was design and permitted within three months as a “shovel ready” federal stimulus project.

As part of this trail project, DRMP designed 8-miles of roadway improvements from downtown Crystal River to the Cross-State Barge Canal just south of Inglis, Florida.  The project included milling and resurfacing, signal upgrades, sidewalk, ADA improvements, traffic control in downtown Crystal River, drainage, permitting and utility coordination.

The multi-use path provides a recreational facility for the Crystal River community that allows for pedestrians to get active and enjoy scenic views. The associated roadway improvements enhance traffic flow efficiency for the area’s motorists.
