Goodland Drive Rehabilitation

Goodland Drive was a landlocked road used by the traveling public to enter and exit the town of Goodland, Fla. The road was subject to extreme tidal flooding, causing an increase in safety concerns for the passing of vehicles, especially emergency services vehicles. Meanwhile the existing Goodland Drive had been showing clear evidence of severing the hydraulic connectivity of the regional wetlands.

DRMP provided design services to reconstruct and widen the existing Goodland Drive from CR 92/San Marco Road to south of Harbor Place. The project goal was to raise the 1-mile of roadway by an average of 15 inches to improve safety and upgrade existing features to current standards. The reconstruction of the road also included the rebuilding of an 8-foot multi-use path. Pipes were installed under the road for the enhancement of tidal flow from local mangrove foresting and Goodland Bay.

With the engineering expertise provided by DRMP staff, Goodland Drive was reconstructed to improve the flooding impacts and allow for safe passage of all vehicles. The local ecosystem also benefited through rehydration of the wetlands.
