DRMP Enhances Drainage and Water Resources Expertise with James Fike, PE
December 18th, 2025
TAMPA, Fla. – DRMP has strengthened its drainage services with the addition of James Fike, PE, as drainage group leader. Fike brings extensive experience providing drainage and water resources expertise for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and municipal clients throughout Florida.
Fike noted that Florida has many engineering challenges, several of them exacerbated by rapid population growth, which has become a test of the state’s resiliency. Addressing those challenges requires moving beyond single-purpose infrastructure to systems that incorporate green infrastructure, meet strict water quality standards, and prioritize long-term adaptation to a changing climate to protect the state’s water resources.
"I can leverage my experience to develop innovative, resilient solutions that are both technically sound and cost-effective for our clients," he said.
Fike brings a diverse background that includes large-scale FDOT projects, as well as critical work for local municipalities. For the past 18 years, he has worked in Florida, primarily supporting transportation-related projects.
In his new role, Fike will mentor younger staff and help guide them toward their career goals while maintaining a strong focus on client-centered design.
“My leadership approach is rooted in servant leadership,” he said. “I consistently strive to prioritize the needs of my team members and the collective good of the project above my own. Customer satisfaction is integral to the ultimate success of our projects.”
Fike began his career with engineering consulting firms in the Baltimore, Md., area after graduating from West Virginia University in 2001. Fike said his interest in drainage began in college where he was influenced by a professor who specialized in hydraulics and fluid mechanics.
“His passion for all things water was truly infectious, transforming a complex technical subject into an exciting discipline,” he said. “This inspiration led me to dedicate my career to water resources engineering, focusing on designing effective and sustainable drainage systems.”
DRMP Vice President and Drainage Division Leader Don Brown, PE, said Fike’s addition to the team further strengthens the firm’s ability to deliver complex drainage solutions across Florida.
“James has a proven track record of managing technically demanding projects while building trust with clients and teams,” Brown said. “His broad background and steady leadership make him a valuable addition as we continue to expand and evolve our drainage practice.”
