Orlando, Fla. – DRMP is pleased to announce that its SR 528 (Beachline) Widening project has received the Grand Award in the Transportation Category from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Florida (ACEC-FL) as part of its 2021 Engineering Excellence Awards.
DRMP provided transportation engineering services for this project that relieves congestion by increasing capacity from I-4 to McCoy Road in Orange County, Fla. This increased capacity creates a vital link in Central Florida by connecting the Orlando International Airport to the future I-4 Beyond the Ultimate corridor, providing tourists access to the City of Orlando, its attractions and theme parks.
The first project phase widened SR 528 for 4-miles from I-4 to Florida’s Turnpike from 4-lanes to 8-lanes and included a new All Electronic Toll (AET) gantry. The second project phase continued the widening for 4-miles from Florida’s Turnpike to McCoy Road from 6-lanes to 8-lanes, including modifications to convert the existing toll plaza to both Open Road Tolling and cash lanes. This project marks the ultimate build-out of the Beachline.

Projects were judged based on uniqueness and innovative applications; future value to the engineering profession; perception by the public; social, economic, and sustainable development considerations; complexity; and successful fulfillment of client/owners’ needs, including schedule and budget.
