Charlotte, NC – DRMP is excited to announce that Ian Ashley, EI, has earned his Engineer Intern (EI) designation in the state of North Carolina.

Ashley, a 2016 civil engineering graduate from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, joined DRMP’s Construction Engineering Inspection (CEI) Division in 2019 and currently serves as an Assistant Resident Engineer for the CEI Division.  When it came to studying for his Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam, Ashley said slow and steady won the race.

“When I came to DRMP in February 2019, I studied off and on for about a year using the practice exams and a free online course,” he said. “I’m not a crammer when it comes to studying, I like to take my time and methodically go through the practice exams.” Now, Ashley has his eyes on the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam.

Along with the support he has received to obtain his certification, he is grateful for the opportunities DRMP afforded him to gain hands-on experience in the field.

“There’s no substitute for ‘mud on boots,’” Ashley said. “Having that practical experience in the field is some of the most valuable experience you can gain and makes you a better engineer.”

Ashley is focusing on the goal to use everything he has learned at DRMP to advance his career and support his team, which is something his supervisor says Ashley is already putting into practice.

“We are very fortunate to have Ian on our team and we look forward to the leadership and knowledge he brings to the table,” said Matt Elliott, DRMP CEI Area Manager.
