Project Engineer Jorge Aravena, EI, Earns Engineer Intern (EI) Designation

June 29th, 2021

Orlando, Fla. –  DRMP is proud to announce that Drainage Project Engineer Jorge Aravena, EI, has earned his Engineer Intern (EI) designation in Florida.

Aravena graduated from the University of Central Florida (UCF) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He started studying to obtain his EI designation as soon as he joined the firm in 2018 as an intern in the Water Resources/Stormwater Management Division. Aravena was originally drawn to engineering as a career because his grandfather worked as a civil engineer in Venezuela, South America. He has continued to develop his passion for drainage engineering while working on many DRMP projects, like the SR 528/ SR 436 Interchange in Orlando, Fla. and the Poinciana Parkway Widening in Lakeland, Fla.

“I have always aspired to be like my grandfather and that is how I decided to pursue a career in civil engineering as well,” said Aravena. “Before my internship at DRMP, I didn’t consider drainage as something I would go into, but after all the experience I have gained at DRMP I really enjoy and appreciate it and will continue to focus my career on drainage engineering as my specialty down the road.”

Preparing for the EI exam proved to be an arduous task for Aravena and took many hours of diligent studying.

“I studied for the exam with practice tests on the weekends and I went over notes from the classes I had taken at UCF,” he said. “I think what helped me was the fact that I took the exam before graduating so all the information was still very fresh in my mind.”

Aravena plans to take the next step in his career by studying and passing the PE exam within the next several years, which will help him obtain his professional engineer license and continue to support his career path development at DRMP.

“Jorge’s passion for engineering is evident in his dedication to learning and growing,” said Water Resources Department Manager Don Brown, PE. “He’s been a valuable asset to our team and I’m excited for what the future holds for him.”
