DRMP Projects Awarded Three FTBA Best in Construction Awards

June 30th, 2022

Orlando, Fla. – DRMP is honored to have three of its projects win the 2022 Florida Transportation Builders Association (FTBA) Best in Construction Awards in the Expressway Authority Project of the Year, Rural Project of the Year, and Bridge Project of the Year categories. Among the three projects, DRMP provided ecological, drainage, structures, surveying and mapping, transportation, utilities, and water resources services.

DRMP was awarded Expressway Authority Project of the Year for the SR 528 and SR 436 Interchange for Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX). Deemed a "CFX signature project," DRMP was the Engineer of Record for this roadway project that improves safety and traffic flow around the north entrance to the Orlando International Airport (OIA). On average, more than 50,000 vehicles a day access OIA through this interchange. The project adds an additional travel lane in each direction of SR 528 (Beachline Expressway) between Conway Road and Goldenrod Road to ease congestion at the interchange.

Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise’s Suncoast Parkway 2, SR 589 Expansion project in Hernando and Citrus counties in Florida won the FTBA Rural Project of the Year. DRMP worked on Segment 1 of the 4-lane all-electronic toll (AET) facility project that continued the Suncoast Parkway from the current highway ending at US Highway 98 up to SR 44. The DRMP team provided design for the nine miles of the new limited-access roadway that improved accessibility and alleviated capacity on nearby roads in Citrus County, Fla.

The Toms Bayou Bridge Replacements project in Okaloosa County, Fla. took the top spot in FTBA’s Bridge category. DRMP provided bridge design services for the construction that replaced an aging bridge over Toms Bayou.  The new structure includes two, 12-foot travel lanes, an eight-foot outside shoulder, and a five-foot sidewalk.

DRMP’s three-category wins are a result of not only the expertise of its staff but its “dedication” said, Vice President/Structures Division Manager Amanda Woods, PE.

“What an accomplishment for DRMP and the team members who worked on these projects during the pursuit, in design, and through construction,” said Woods.  “It is a testament to the quality of our staff and their dedication to having three major projects win in the same year.”

Woods was also part of the group that was selected for the Suncoast Parkway 2, SR 589 Expansion for Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise project in 2006.

Woods said FTBA’s recognitions speak to DRMP’s focus on providing the best outcomes for its clients.

“One of DRMP’s strategic pillars is our Clients,” Woods said. “Our goal is to develop a reputation as an industry innovator and to be the professional partner of choice in the markets we serve. I believe that with this win we have shown that we understand our clients' needs/goals and if they succeed, we succeed. It sends a message to future clients that we are invested in seeing our projects successfully through from start to finish.”
