DRMP Principal Mark Prochak, PE, Retiring After More Than 20 Years of Service
January 12th, 2023
Orlando, Fla. – After 21 years of dedicated service, Mark Prochak, PE, has retired as Principal of DRMP. Although retired, Prochak will continue working part-time to assist DRMP with a project to be completed in Fall 2023.
He joined DRMP in 2001 as a Senior Project Manager in the firm’s Transportation Division. In 2003, Prochak was named a Vice President and became a Managing Principal in 2015. He later joined DRMP’s Board of Directors in 2017. During Prochak’s time as DRMP’s Transportation Division Manager, and later Principal, he managed several impactful and award-winning projects and was integral in the growth and expansion of the division.
Prochak is leaving behind a legacy in engineering and leadership, said DRMP President Glenn Lusink, PSM.
“Even today, the firm is still being recognized and awarded for projects that he led years ago,” Lusink said.
DRMP’s Suncoast Parkway 2 from US 98 to State Road 44 project won a 2022 Yearbook of Engineering Achievement Award, from Zweig Group’s Civil+Structural Engineer Media. The project also took home the Florida Transportation Builders Association (FTBA) 2022 Rural Project of the Year.
He also has been a key player in moving the firm forward in growth and expansion.
“I’ve worked closely with Mark for the past 10 years in developing and planning for DRMP. He has played an impactful role in where the firm is today and its success in the future,” Lusink added.
Along with his expertise and leadership in engineering, Prochak was dedicated to supporting the next generation of engineers at DRMP. He has served as a trusted mentor throughout his career and initiated and supported the development of DRMP’s Mentorship Program, which has fostered cross-discipline relationships that have benefited the firm and its clients. Prochak also lent his leadership skills to serve as the Advisor for the firm’s Diversity Equity & Inclusion Committee and was a champion for women in the engineering industry.
“Mark was highly successful in his career and was willing to pass on what he had learned to staff here at DRMP for over 20 years," said DRMP Vice President Colette Moss, PE. “His main goal was to see DRMP succeed. By helping staff succeed, he helped DRMP be the best. This is what great leaders and great mentors do, and Mark is both.”
DRMP CEO Larry Smith Jr., PE, echoed Moss’s sentiment.
"Mark is one of our biggest, if not the biggest, champions for mentorship. He's mentored many of our leaders who have elevated under his leadership," Smith added. "Along with being a great engineer and leader, he's always been fair, level-headed, and a trusted friend to me. Throughout his time here, he's made a tremendous impact and will be missed."
