DRMP Roadway Design Intern Abby Rains Awarded with WTS Scholarship

October 3rd, 2023

ORLANDO, Fla. – Congratulations to DRMP Roadway Design Intern Abby Rains for receiving a scholarship award for the WTS Central Florida Chapter (WTSCFL).

Rains recently received the $2,000 Frankee Hellinger Leadership Undergraduate scholarship at the WTSCFL banquet after applying for it. The scholarship will assist Rains with her college expenses at the University of Central Florida (UCF) where she plans to graduate in December 2023 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.

“I’m incredibly thankful for the support of WTS,” Rains said. “Everyone in attendance at the banquet was congratulatory and made me feel special and on top of the world. They showed so much appreciation for the scholarship winners and are truly dedicated to advancing women in any way they can.”

Rains has been a member of WTSCFL for more than a year and plans to get more involved with the organization after she graduates from UCF.

“Their mission is extremely important to me as a woman in a transportation field,” Rains said. “They do a fantastic job at empowering women and making them feel heard and seen for all the hard work they do

day in and day out. In the short time I’ve been a member, I’ve met some incredible people in the chapter who will be my connections for a lifetime.”

Amanda Woods, PE, DRMP Senior Vice President and Director of Transportation, who attended the banquet with Rains, is on the WTSCFL Student Liaison Committee and has been a member of the organization since 2015. Woods will join the organization’s board of directors in January as Director of Advancement.

She commended Rains for her ambition and enthusiasm for the engineering profession.

“Abby continues to impress me with her passion for engineering,” Woods said. “She strives to be the best at what she does and goes out of her way to be involved in the engineering community. We are very proud of her accomplishments and look forward to what she will do in the future.”
