CR 292A (W. Sunset Avenue) over Bayou Grande Bridge Replacement

The CR 292A (W. Sunset Avenue) over Bayou Grande Bridge Replacement is a $5.4 million project located in Escambia County, Florida. The existing bridge is a 600-foot long functionally obsolete bridge over Bayou Grande located southwest of Pensacola in the advanced staged for chloride induced deterioration.  An existing bulkhead wall protecting the eastern bridge approach was also heavily deteriorated.

DRMP led the design and plans preparation for the replace bridge at Bayou Grande. The new bridge-over-water is 630-feet long and consists of six spans of Florida-I 45 beams supported on pile bents.  This coastal bridge features enhanced aesthetics, bicycle lanes and pedestrian features which were coordinated with Escambia County and the active Warrington Revitalization Committee.  The bulkhead wall was replaced with a revetment system.

The new bridge design provided FDOT District Three with a cross-section bridge, 5-foot wide sidewalk paths and added bicycle lanes. All of the new enhancements improve the safety and comfort of both motorists and pedestrians. The new aesthetically pleasing structure is engineered for maximum structure lifespan and to reduce possible maintenance costs.
