Cross Seminole Trail South Pedestrian Bridge

Seminole County, Florida, sought a professional engineering services firm to provide design services for a pedestrian bridge. The bridge is needed to connect a multi-use trail on either side of Tuscawilla Road.

The project design included 2.8-miles of a 15-foot paved trail and a parallel 6- to 8-foot wide unpaved trail from the Orange/Seminole County line at SR 426 and Howell Branch Road to approximately 850-feet south of Mikler Road. In order to provide a major crossing of Tuscawilla Road, an 880-foot long multi-use trail bridge including approach ramps was designed.  The bridge is comprised of three spans of simple supported Florida U-Beams having lengths of 88-, 138-, and 88-feet to support a cast-in-place composite deck.  The main span substructures are comprised of decorative arch shaped cast-in-place concrete piers supported on spread footings.  Façade panels were used to produce architectural cladding on the sides of piers and at ramp landing locations.

The trail now connects over Tuscawilla Road creating a longer multi-use trail without sacrificing user safety.
