Haulover Creek Pedestrian Bridge

The FDOT District Two sought a structural engineering team to assist with the design of a pedestrian bridge on Timucuan Trail. The Timucuan Trail, in northeast Florida, needed a structure over Haulover Creek to connect the trails on each side of the water.

DRMP designed a 248-foot bridge to carry the Timucuan Trail shared-use path over Haulover Creek.  DRMP analyzed several design alternatives and determined that using a pair of AASHTO Type II Girders was the optimal solution.  This project included several project constraints that were identified early in the design process including limited right-of-way, insufficient creek depth for barge access at the creek entrance to the St. Johns River and close proximity to residential dwellings.  To mitigate these potential issues, we worked closely with FDOT District Two to obtain a temporary construction easement to provide access to build a structure that will suit the needs of the Timicuan Trail users and reduce unnecessary impacts to the local residents.

The pedestrian bridge connects the shared use path over Haulover Creek allowing for continuous connectivity of the path for trail users.
