St. Johns Heritage Parkway/Platt Ranch Topographic Survey

DRMP was tasked with providing design surveying and right-of-way mapping services supporting the design of a new 4-lane roadway alignment east of I-95 in Brevard County, Florida. A large portion of this new roadway was planned to bisect the Platt Ranch, a large agricultural operation in the area that made up approximately one quarter of the entire project. The survey had to be performed in a timely manner, but without disrupting ranch operations or the Melbourne Tillman Drainage District canals on the property, which the Ranch had day-to-day control over.

DRMP performed a topographic survey of the design limits and surveyed sections and property corners for all impacted properties within the design limits, which extended from the City of Palm Bay’s northern limits and ran north for approximately five miles before turning east to cross I-95, ending at the existing John Rhodes Boulevard and Ellis Road intersection. DRMP performed boundary surveys for all properties to be acquired, including the right-of-way, ponds and other easements lying within the Platt Ranch property. The survey was a result of Brevard County and Platt Ranch coming to an agreement over the type of rights to be exchanged, keeping in mind the potential for future development on the Platt Ranch.

The resulting topographic and right-of-way control survey provided an overall design basis for the project from end-to-end. The Boundary Surveys and legal descriptions prepared for the County were used to acquire right-of-way for the Parkway.
