Palm Coast Parkway Widening

Palm Coast Parkway Widening was a $10.5 million project located in the City of Palm Coast, Florida. The roadway was becoming highly congested due to lack of capacity. The congestion was causing increases in vehicular accidents and emergency vehicle response times.  The City knew that the lack of traffic efficiency on one of their busiest roads needed to be addressed.

DRMP provided design, permitting, cost estimating and public involvement services for the roadway widening improvements from a 4-lane suburban section to a 6-lane urban facility for approximately 1.5-miles in length. The project began 500-feet west of Cypress Point Parkway/Boulder Drive and extended to Old Kings Road. The Palm Coast Parkway then bifurcated and the design terminated at the Florida Park Drive. The project included the addition of several bike and pedestrian amenities such as paths, curbs, gutters and sidewalks.  This was a LAP-funded project between the City of Palm Coast and FDOT District Five.

This project was unavoidable in order to alleviate current and future traffic congestion. The new roadway provides the City of Palm Coast with larger capacity limits that will dramatically help hurricane evacuation and emergency vehicle response times. Not only have motorists seen their commute time drop, but the morale of bicyclists and pedestrians increased too. The area also benefited from the enhanced aesthetics and landscape surrounding the parkway as a result of the project.
