SR 70 Drainage Improvements

As part of a Districtwide Drainage Contract for the Florida Department of Transportation District One, DRMP provided professional engineering services for the SR 70 Drainage Improvements project in Arcadia, Florida (Desoto County).  The existing 2-lane, one-way urban roadway experienced chronic flooding which created safety issues for this heavy traffic urban corridor.

DRMP designed 1500-LF of new 24-inch storm sewer along SR 70 (Magnolia Drive) in Arcadia, Florida to alleviate chronic roadway and commercial flooding.  The new storm sewer was designed to avoid impacts to the existing City water and sewer mains.  The new storm sewer was constructed to connect to the existing box culvert outfall which serves as a natural energy dissipater.  New inlets were strategically placed to reduce hydroplaning and improve safety.   ADA compliant sidewalk and lighting were designed as an added benefit of the pipe construction.   The project was permitted through the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD).  DRMP provided support services during construction.

Heavy flooding was relieved and safety was improved with the construction of a new storm sewer system.   The project improved the quality of life for the traveling public as well as for the adjacent businesses.
