Sunset Lane Drainage Improvements

As part of a Professional Miscellaneous Engineering Services for Stormwater Services continuing contract with Hillsborough County, DRMP provided drainage improvements to Sunset Lane. The area’s residents had sent in several flooding complaints, and the County selected an experienced firm to provide solutions.

DRMP provided design and permitting of a stormwater retrofit to alleviate chronic roadway flooding near the intersection of Sunset Lane and Hanna Road in Lutz, Florida. The project involved a brief preliminary engineering phase to update and modify the Cypress Creek Watershed hydrologic and hydraulic model (HCSWMM) to more accurately reflect existing conditions. Final design and permitting through the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) involved several hundred feet of new storm sewer as well as an improved outfall. A planting plan was also developed at the proposed outfall location to create a passive wooded area.

The project successfully relieved chronic roadway flooding and improved water quality to Cypress Creek.
