DRMP Project Receives 2021 Florida Preservation Award

Tallahassee, Fla.DRMP’s project, St. John’s Episcopal Church, has received a Florida Preservation Award from the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation.

As part of the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation’s annual meeting in July 2021, the civil engineering services DRMP provided to help restore and rehabilitate the church was recognized as a “significant achievement in the preservation of Florida’s rich heritage,” read the meeting program.

DRMP provided the following services to help restore the church: master planning; Tallahassee Trust for Historic Preservation Local Register/Certificate of Appropriateness; environmental permitting; State of Florida Division of Historic Resources Historic Preservation Grant Assistance; Historic Building Grant and Loan Program Assistance; Construction Management Services; and Wayfinding and Directional Signage.

St. John’s Episcopal Church in Tallahassee, Fla. was constructed in 1881 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Tallahassee-Leon County Register of Historic Places. It is one of the few historic brick Gothic Revival churches in Florida and has served as Florida’s first Episcopal cathedral for decades. Careful consideration was made during the rehabilitation process to adhere to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation. The restoration work for the church was funded in part by the Florida Division of Historical Resources.
