DRMP Projects Receive 2025 DBIA Florida Region Awards
September 4th, 2025
ORLANDO, Fla. – Three DRMP transportation projects have earned 2025 awards from the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Florida Region, which recognizes outstanding achievements in design-build delivery throughout Florida.
- Wekiva Parkway Section 8 Interchange Design-Build project received the Project of the Year Award in the Transportation – Structures Category
- I-4 at SR 557 Interchange Design-Build project earned an Honor Award in the Transportation – Structures category
- Big Bend Road (CR 672) at I-75/SR 93A project received an Honor Award in the Transportation – Roadway category
All three projects were evaluated by a panel of DBIA professionals, and awards will be presented at the 2025 DBIA Florida Region Conference being held Oct. 15-17 at the Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. Category winners of the Project of the Year Award are eligible for the Best Overall Project of the Year, which will be announced at the awards ceremony.
“The I-4 at SR 557 and Wekiva Parkway Section 8 interchange projects reflect the strength of our design-build partnerships and our team's commitment to delivering complex transportation solutions efficiently,” said DRMP Senior Vice President of Alternative Delivery TJ Lallathin, PE, DBIA. “These awards are a testament to the collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence that went into every phase of these projects.”
This marks the fifth award for the Wekiva Parkway Section 8 Interchange. Other recent awards include:
- National Award of Merit from the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) in the Transportation (Other than Aviation) category
- Engineering News-Record’s (ENR) Highway/Bridge Award of Merit in 2025 Regional Best Projects Competition
- Florida Transportation Builders’ Association (FTBA) Best in Construction Award for Design-Build 2025
- 2025 Outstanding Design-Build or Construction Manager at Risk Project Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Florida (ACEC-FL) and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT)
The I-4 at SR 557 Interchange project has also received the 2025 Outstanding Environmental Project Award from ACEC-FL and FDOT and a 2025 Engineering Excellence Honor Award from ACEC-FL.
The I-75 at Big Bend Road Interchange project in Hillsborough County, Fla., recently received the 2025 Florida Transportation Builders’ Association (FTBA) Best in Construction Award in the Interchange Category.
DRMP provided Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) services for this project.
“It’s an honor to add another recognition to this project’s portfolio that highlights the dedication and teamwork of our CEI team alongside FDOT District 7, Skanska USA Civil Southeast, and Dewberry,” DRMP Construction Services Area Leader Brian Crowl, PE, said. “Together, we overcame complex challenges and delivered a project that meets the needs of a growing community.”
About Wekiva 8 Interchange Design-Build Project
The Wekiva Parkway Section 8 project, a $274.5 million design-build in Seminole County, completed Central Florida’s beltway with a 2.63-mile toll road and a new interchange connecting I-4, SR 417, and SR 429. Featuring 20 bridges, ITS, all-electronic tolling, and sustainable design, the project saved $75 million, improved safety, and minimized environmental impacts. DRMP partnered with prime contractor The Lane Construction Corporation and subconsultants Ardaman & Associates, Inc., BCC Engineering, Inc., Bentley Group, Inc., Brindley Pieters & Associates, Inc. (BPA), Ardurra Group, Inc., Florida Bridge & Transportation (FBT), Osiris 9 Consultant, LLC, and Terracon Consultants, Inc.
About I-4 at SR 557 Interchange Design-Build Project
The I-4 at SR 557 project is a $77 million FDOT District 1 design-build effort that realigned 2 miles of I-4 to support future high-speed rail, widened SR 557, converted the interchange to a diamond design with dual teardrop roundabouts, and included Polk County’s first wildlife crossing under I-4 to mitigate environmental impacts. DRMP partnered with prime contractor Skanska USA Civil Southeast, Inc., and subconsultants Element Engineering Group, LLC, Foundation & Geotechnical Engineering, LLC (FGE), Protean Design Group, Inc., and Madrid CPWG to deliver $1 million in cost savings by shifting the alignment east, enabling safer, faster construction with minimal traffic disruption. This innovative project restored critical wildlife connectivity and received approvals from the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFMD) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).
About I-75 at Big Bend Road
The I-75 at Big Bend Road Interchange project in Hillsborough County, Fla., improved traffic flow by reconstructing ramps, widening Big Bend Road to six lanes, and modernizing pedestrian and transit facilities. DRMP served as prime consultant for CEI services, collaborating closely with FDOT District 7, Hillsborough County departments, and stakeholders. The design-build team included Skanska USA Civil Southeast and Dewberry, working together to deliver a complex project with innovative safety measures and around-the-clock operations.
