SR 40 Flood Mitigation & Silver Springs Stormwater (JPA)

SR 40 Flood Mitigation and Silver Springs Stormwater is a $2.7 million project located in Ocala, Florida. The City of Ocala needed a firm to provide Construction Engineering Inspection (CEI) services, and received funding as a Joint Project Agreement (JPA) through the FDOT.

DRMP’s innovative approach was to have one person perform both the project administrator and senior inspector duties to reduce cost and personnel. DRMP reviewed the contractor’s construction schedule and evaluated production as the project progressed. DRMP utilized a proactive approach to limit change orders by creative thinking and problem solving at the lowest levels. The SR 40 Flood Mitigation Project had a St. Johns Water Management District (SJRWMD) permit to construct the Drainage Retention Area (DRA) ponds and the contractor had to construct the DRA ponds to designed capacity. SR 40 Flood project is also a Joint Project Agreement (JPA) with FDOT for the Phase 4 section of the project. DRMP assisted the City with FDOT procedures and requirements to ensure the City receives reimbursements without delay or complications.

Locations within the project limits were prone to flooding and have flooded over the last several years. Because of this, the project included a drainage system that isolated both gravity and general water flow and included a series of pumps designed to manage water levels within three ponds within the project area. Pumping allows for regulation of water levels and will reduce potential for flooding conditions for local materials and residents.
